Description
This Anger Triggers & Calm Down Strategies Interactive Activity encourages students to explore and identify their anger triggers and learn helpful ways to cope with their feelings.
⭐ To use this activity…
✅ First, students explore the 24 anger trigger cards and choose 6 that bother them the most. They can cut them out and glue them onto the “I feel ANGRY because” page, or attach them with hook and loop fasteners.
✅ Then, students explore the 20 calm down strategy cards and choose 6 that they would most like to learn, try, and practice. They cut them out and glue them to the “To CALM DOWN I can” page, or attach them with hook and loop fasteners.
✅ Blank cards for students to write/draw in their own anger triggers and calm down strategies are also included.
✅ A reference page that says, “I feel angry because _____, To calm down I can _____, and am I calm?” is also included for in-the-moment support. It can be kept in a Calm Corner or safe place to help students identify their anger triggers, choose 2 helpful calm down strategies, and decide if they’re ready to return to the group.
✅ All materials are available in full color and black/white!
What Educators Say
"I am homeschooling my grandson due to behavior problems at public school. He is also working with a special education teacher, OT, and a speech therapist. We have been working in how big is the problem and calming techniques. He is a hands on learner so when I came across this resource I was delighted. We spent a couple of days working on his triggers and getting down to a workable amount. Then we worked on calming techniques. The blank cards were perfect. We could add concepts others were presenting. He goes straight to the "board" when he needs to calm down. Just picking out the cards he needs calms him down quickly. This was my first resource from "Music City Counselor" but it won't be my last."
"I originally bought this for one of my students who was working on regulating their emotions and utilizing de-escalation strategies. After using it with them, I ended up putting it into our class "calm down" box because I feel it can be helpful for all students."
"I love using this resource with students that need help controlling their anger. I make it into a two part lesson, where we identify and talk about triggers and the next time we meet, we go over all of the calming strategies and choose new ones for them to try out/glue onto the worksheet."
"Love this resource...easy to use with students in individual sessions and the graphics are great. Students responded well to the activity."
