This engaging lesson teaches 6th – 8th graders that diversity is beautiful and to be accepting of differences.
♥️ Students “meet” 24 diverse kids and explore their cultures, interests, hobbies, abilities, languages, families, personalities, styles, strengths, and more. By exposing students to these unique and special characters, they learn to be curious, accepting, tolerant, and welcoming of differences.
✨ THIS RESOURCE INCLUDES:
- A PowerPoint and digital for Google Slides™ presentation that introduces the concept of diversity with a garden metaphor. Then, it teaches students the definition of diversity and 5 reasons why diversity is beautiful. Finally, it introduces students to all 24 diverse kids and includes discussion questions.
- 24 “Diversity Chat” discussion cards
- 24 “diverse kids” posters that introduce each character and provide a description of their personality, culture, hobbies, and style. Students explore the characters’ diverse abilities, languages, ethnic backgrounds, traditions, holidays, beliefs, interests, talents, families, passions, and more.
- A doodle worksheet that goes along with each of the 24 diverse kids
- A blank “all about me” doodle worksheet that lets students explore their own identities
