It is easily created and stored in a manila folder, and hook-and-loop fastener dots make it interactive for students! Educators can keep a copy of the Calm Down Lap Book in their Calm Corner and students who need extra support can easily transport theirs from class to class.

"I bought this resource 4 weeks ago in a desperate attempt to help a kiddo. He’s a kindergartener in our self contained behavioral program who has had significant aggression, dysregulated behaviors, and emotional outbursts. My team was trying and failing miserably using an ABA approach. I’m talking 65 instances of seclusion and restraint in 5 weeks, with instances of aggression, non compliance, screaming, property destruction lasting up to 2.5 hours. We were at our breaking point when I saw your post for the Calm Down Lap Book. We shifted our mindset and focus for him into a more mental health treatment style than behavioral. In 4 weeks, he has learned that it is okay to have different feelings, that it’s okay to express our feelings, and that there are adults to help you work through them. Now, rather than raging, he is able to express how he is feeling and choose a strategy to help him get to his goal (which is almost always to rejoin the group). In 4 weeks, the duration of behaviors has reduced to either super quick turn around or MAX 4 minute episodes of crying (no aggression). Instances of seclusion and restraint are down significantly as well. We just had a meeting with parents who were in tears over how much progress they have seen with his self regulation and ability to manage his emotions. I can not thank you enough for posting this resource. It has made an incredible amount of difference. A month ago we were talking about outplacement.
