Description
This Coping with Divorce Lap Book is an interactive, memorable resource that supports students through changes in their families. It is easily created and stored in a file folder, so it a perfect grab-and-go resource to pull out as needed! This lap book is a meaningful activity for individual and small group counseling, and parents love when a copy is sent home, too!
⭐ THIS RESOURCE INCLUDES:
✅ A description of “Kid’s Rights:” a list of things that kids NEED (i.e. to be loved unconditionally, to be aware of important changes happening in their life) and kids should NOT (i.e. see their parents fighting, worry about grown-up problems) in coping with divorce
✅ A 3-part interactive, hands-on component that allows students to express their feelings, describe what worries them the most about their parents’ divorce, and choose and practice helpful coping strategies
✅A writing/drawing component that asks students to draw/write about their family and home life before and after the divorce, write a brief poem about their feelings, and fill in their “support heart” with people who care about them and who they can go to for help during this tough time
✂️ I recommend using a file folder and hook and loop fastener dots to assemble this lap book!
What Educators Say
"My students LOVE these interactive lap books! This one is so needed and allows me to cover a lot of information in a non-threatening way. Thank you!"
"I made this lap book and used it with one of my 1st graders. We walked through each of the prompts together and debriefed his answers once he had selected his feelings, etc. It was very helpful to have the explanation of divorce and what can help kids and parents. I like to print off an extra copy of the support/poem page to send home with the student. I usually email the parent with a snapshot of the explanation page (kids should/should not sections) to encourage support at home. I highly recommend this resource for all elementary grades."
"I enjoy using lap books for my elementary students because it is easy for them to see. This is a great resource for working with students whose families are experiencing divorce, especially when they don't understand. Thank you!"
"This was wonderful for working with my small groups when talking about divorce and helping them get their thoughts out. Great resource!"
"Great resource to help my individual counseling students express their thoughts and feelings on divorce."
"This colorful and creative resource gives me something positive and truly helpful to use when supporting children in this difficult topic."
