Meet the School Psychologist, Waves of Life Lesson

This Meet the School Psychologist lesson teaches middle schoolers about size of the problem, the role of the school psychologist, and when to ask for help.

✨ The main idea is: “School psychologists help students ride the waves of life!” We teach students “how to surf” by supporting, guiding, helping, and encouraging them through the many “waves” that middle school brings.

☀️ The ocean and surfing theme is SO FUN and memorable!

⭐ Students learn:

• 14 examples of “waves” that can hit in middle school (i.e. anxiety, peer pressure, friendship issues)
• 3 ocean-themed sizes of the problem: “ripple” (small), “wave” (medium), “tidal wave” (large)
• 9 examples of each type of problem
• When to ask for support
• An introduction to their school psychologist
• 10 ways that school psychologists support students
• The definition and purpose of confidentiality
• That “no one surfs alone” and school psychologists are here to help
