❤️ I’ll never forget the moment when I found out that my precious students, Deja and DeShawn, had come home from school and found their mommy dead in the family room. Sometimes students’ needs are so great, so profound, that they can be overwhelming and dizzying even to us as trained professionals. I learned from this experience, and many others, that the two most important tools that I needed to support students through grief and loss were: my heart and high-quality resources. I wrote a blog post about my favorite story books and activities that formed my “toolbox” and made me feel better equipped and more confident to counsel students through a loss. I hope that my post is helpful to you because you truly never know when a student will walk into your office in desperate need of your love and care. 💕

💌 Y’all know that I ❤️ using seasonal resources with my students. Well, we’re about a month away from Valentine’s Day, so it’s time to pull out the themed activities! 🥰

💘 This digital and printable Valentine’s Day Feelings Game asks students to read themed scenario cards and imagine how they would feel. Then, they choose 1-2 heart emojis that express their feelings and place them on the blank valentine to “decorate” it! Whether you’re counseling in-person or virtually, this is a fun way to teach feelings identification and social skills! 💬 When I first started school counseling, I had no idea that counseling English Learners would become my greatest passion and love. Although it can be challenging to work with students who speak English as a second language, it is so rewarding and SO worth it! 💕

🇪🇸 Although I am bilingual myself, there was still a HUGE learning curve for me in making sure I was providing effective, appropriate, and supportive services to my English Learner friends. There is a lot that I wish I would have known when I first started serving this population, so I shared my best tips and tricks for you in this poster and a blog post on my website.
